Longhorn cattle are synonymous with Texas. When you think of the Lone Star state, the phrase “everything is bigger in Texas”, usually comes to mind. Images of big skies, bluebonnets, cowboys, convertible Cadillacs and longhorn cattle likely dance in your mind’s eye.
However, the story of the Longhorn go beyond a symbol of Texas. They are an emblem of the untamed spirit of the American West. They are deeply embedded in over five centuries in American history, the heart and soul of frontier legends, making them gatekeepers of a wild, bygone era.
Their story has inspired this painting.
“One Eye”, named for the dark patch around his right eye, stands proudly against the backdrop of a vivid, pink sky. He embodies the role of guardian at the gateway to the boundless western frontier. His gaze, powerful and penetrating, holds untold stories of the wild, bittersweet history that defines the spirit of the American West.
